Verrucas
Verrucas are a common condition and effect roughly 7-10% of the population. Verrucas are caused by human papilloma virus (HPV). Various conservative treatments are available such as chemical and physical which aim to distrupt the integrity of the verruca so that the cells in the skin can recognize and mount an immune response. Verrucas can take multiple treatments to clear. Your Podiatrist will give you a treatment plan that will take into account your medical conditions, severity, size, pain, and the length of time you have had the verruca.
Surgical options that are available for verrucas:
-
Electro surgery
Performed under a local anasthetic. We use a hyfrecation machine to deliver electronic current in order to induce controlled tissue destruction of the verruca.
-
Dry needling
Performed under a local anaesthetic and involves making tiny holes through the verruca in order to get an immune response.
